Plan for Monitoring 1998 Leonid Shower in China
Zhang Heqi, Xu Pinxin and Li Guangyu, Purple Mountain Observatory, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing 210008, China

For the possible first peak of Leonid shower (235.17 of solar longitude, 2000.0, 1998 November 17, 17h UT) only spots in East China have enough elevations of the radiant point. Observational spots near Changchun, Beijing, Qingdao, Shanghai, and Guangzhou, sustaining an arc of more than 20 from north to south, will serve to monitor this peak while to cope with possible bad weather locally along this arc. By adding observational spots near Xining and Urumqi, activities of Leonid shower in solar longitudes 235.2-235.4 may be well monitored optically in China. In addition to optical methods, observation will be strengthened by radar and infrasonic methods. We would like to receive foreign observers in all the above-mentioned spots.
