Financial Assistance
Funding is available from a variety of sources to assist with the cost of participating in this IAU Colloquium. Nevertheless, the funding available is very far from sufficient to meet the total costs of even a significant fraction of the participants. It is generally assumed that participants will first seek funding locally.
As is always the case with IAU Symposia and Colloquia, the IAU allocates a certain amount of funding to assist with the travel expenses of participants. The general guidelines for IAU travel grants are available from the IAU. Applications for IAU travel grants should be submitted to the chairman of the SOC, preferably using the standard application form. Note that the amounts requested should be in Swiss francs since those are the units with which the IAU works.
The U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration has agreed to provide funding to support the travel of U. S. scientists who have submitted abstracts to the program. The usual definition of a U. S. scientist in this connection is one who is employed at a U. S. institution and it does not depend on citizenship. U.S. scientists should submit the standard application form, although the amounts should be in US Dollars rather than in Swiss francs. These applications will be considered separately by NASA managers upon recommendation from the chiarman of the SOC.
