Publication of Procedings
The procedings of the colloquium will be edited by M. A'Hearn, the chairman of the SOC, and published in the Conference Series of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP). The ASP is now the official publisher of IAU Symposia, Transactions, etc. and we have chosen them as the publisher for this colloquium. Copies of the procedings will be provided, courtesy of financial support from the European Space Agency (ESA), to fully registered participants.
Papers presented at the colloquium will be due in final form on 1998 July 15. This gives about 6 weeks to prepare manuscripts after the end of the conference. All manuscripts must be prepared in the LaTeX templates used for the ASP Conference Series and they will generally be submitted electronically with a paper copy as backup and for transmission to the referee. Links below may be followed to obtain the appropriate forms and complete instructions.
Invited review papers will be limited to a maximum of 25 pages, while contributed papers and posters will be limited to a maximum of 10 pages. Manuscripts of contributed papers will be refereed by members of the SOC before being accepted for publication.
The LaTeX files and the documentation necessary for the preparation of colloquium manuscripts can be obtained via the WWW or via FTP.
When submitting your manuscript, it is easiest for us to keep track of the text and figure files if the name of the LaTeX file consists of the surname and initial(s) of the first author, e.g., ahearn-mf.tex, and any separate files for figures use that name with F1, F2, etc. as in ahearn-mfF1.eps or ahearn-mfF2.ps. By far the easiest method for us to use is anonymous ftp. Proceed as follows:
ftp ftp.astro.umd.edu
Name: anonymous
Password: youruserid@yourhost.domain (use your complete email address)
cd incoming/china
put filename.tex
mput file*.eps
ls -l (to check that your complete file was transferred)
quit
After you have done that, please send an email message to the editor,
ma@astro.umd.edu, indicating which files have been posted to the ftp site.
